State Report Outline
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
During our research, writing, and creating, I expect all students to be on task, focused, and have all materials necessary everyday. Your grade will be reduced if you have issues with any of these areas. If you do not have necessary materials, it will be counted as a late assignment.
This project will have 3 components:

Slide Presentation:
Now that you are the expert working for your state Chamber of Commerce, you will make a presentation to a group of people planning the vacation of a lifetime. Your job is to make them WANT to include your state on their trip. You will create a slideshow to use in your presentation.
Here are the guidelines for this slideshow:
Oral Presentation:
As a Chamber of Commerce member, you will give a sales pitch for your great state. You should have the information pretty much memorized. You should not have to read any information. You may refer to the slideshow or note cards if necessary. You are talking with your clients, not to the screen...You must be enthusiastic and professional. Can’t wait to see what your state has to offer!

- Hook
- Name
- Nickname and why
- State Motto and why
- History
- Date it became a state
- State order number (order of joining the Union/date of Admission)
- What person or group of people founded your state? When?
- Three major events since statehood with short description and importance
- Geography
- Total square miles and rank by size
- Regional location: Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Midwest...
- Bordering states
- Major landforms (at least two: mountains, plains, deserts…) (If I am in a plane flying over this state, what will I see as I look down at the land & water)
- Major bodies of water in or bordering your state & location: rivers, lakes, North, East, Southwest…
- Climate: weather expected summer/winter including precipitation and any major weather patterns
- People
- State capital
- Number of counties in your state
- Major cities (at least 3) and where located
- Current population
- Three important/famous people and what they did
- Economy
- Three largest industries (craft, art, business, manufacturing, etc.)
- Major tourist attractions (Why do people visit your state?)
- Fun Facts
- Four state symbols
- Three other bits of interesting trivia (totally fun, unusual stuff)
- Conclusion
- Why your state is important
- Why your state is a place we should all see

This project will have 3 components:
Written report:
- The purpose of this report is to find out why your state is interesting and important.
- Follow outline for fact finding.
- Keep notes on index cards as shown in class. Write source number for every source where information is found on each fact card.
- Keep works cited page current.
- Turn in rough drafts of paragraphs on due dates.
- Reminder: each paragraph should have a strong topic sentence followed by complete supporting sentences, using strong vocabulary and sentence structure. Spelling and punctuation will also be graded.
- Your rough draft paragraphs must be handwritten. You may type your final.
- You must cite your sources as you use them with a rough draft works cited. You will export the works cited from easybib.com onto google doc.
- Reminder: if you type your report it must be double spaced using Times New Roman in size 12 text.
Slide Presentation:

- Use Google slides
- You will have a title slide.
- You must have at least 6 informational slides, more slides is fine. You decide which information you want to include as strong selling points for your presentation.
- Each slide should have text and graphics. Spelling/grammar counts.
- Remember, the purpose of your presentation is to convince us to visit your state.
- At the end of the presentations, the class will vote for the state they’d most want to visit.
